The image is based on a meeting and interview with a woman, conducted as part of a film project. She lives in Wales, far removed from civilization, in a sort of hobbit house amidst a swampy woodland; she has no electricity or running water, relying instead on a spring. She describes her lifestyle as the "paradise code"—representing a primal connection between humanity and the intelligence of nature. That living connection is very palpable there. Meeting her awakened a kind of archetype within me—one that oscillates between the Mona Lisa and Black Sabbath—and left a deep impression on my psyche.
The title "Dark Matter" alludes both to the invisible phenomena for which science has no explanation and to "dark mater"—the dark side of Mother Earth—which, after centuries of being disregarded by humanity, is now fully unleashing its shadow dynamics.
